Mountain lion dies in surgery after being shot by police in California
On Friday, a baby mountain lion who was shot by cops died during surgery in a zoo in California.
The animal was frightened by a tranquillizer shot and jumped at an officer in a suburban neighbourhood, a zoo official said.
According to officials, the lion charged out of a bush toward a police officer as California Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel attempted to tranquillize it.
Zoo officials said the lion weighed about 75 pounds.
"He's gorgeous, in excellent shape, well-fed, and everything is fine. Most likely just a young man looking for territory, as many do at that age.
Vice President of veterinary services at the zoo, Dr. Alex Herman, stated. Dr. Herman felt optimistic before the procedure but was aware of the risk. She said, "A lot of animals die from wounds like this."
